New Report: How the Economic Recovery Is Leaving California’s Midwage Earners Behind

The strength of our state’s economy must be considered not just in terms of its overall growth, but also with an eye toward how widely these economic gains are shared by California’s workers.

Our new Issue Brief — California’s Sinking Center: How the Economic Recovery Is Leaving California’s Midwage Earners Behind — shows that even as the state’s labor market continued to rebound and unemployment fell in 2014, workers with wages around the middle of the earnings spectrum continued to lose ground. The declining purchasing power of wages for workers at or near the middle continues a decades-long trend and, what’s more, contributes to worsening income inequality in our state.
