On the Docket: Conference Committee Begins

Conference Committee – the two-house committee which meets to resolve differences between the Senate and Assembly versions of the budget – is going to begin meeting today at 1:00 p.m. in Room 4203 in the State Capitol to hear and discuss an overview of the economy and general budget issues. On Friday at 10:00 a.m., the committee will meet again to examine approaches to solving our state’s budget challenges. They’ll also examine issues surrounding the financial relationship between the state and local governments and the Proposition 98 school funding guarantee.

Members of this year’s Conference Committee are: Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny, Chair; Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield, Vice Chair; Senator Bob Dutton, Senator Bob Huff, Senator Mark Leno, Senator Alan Lowenthal, Assemblymember Connie Conway, Assemblymember Felipe Fuentes, Assemblymember Jim Nielsen, and Assemblymember Nancy Skinner.

According to the Daily File, the committee will be on call every day from now until June 11, with human services issues expected to come up sometime next week.

The conference committee agendas can be found this year on a handy website.

As always, if you’re not in Sacramento, you can follow the action via The California Channel or the Senate and Assembly websites.
