Once again, the Budget Center partnered with Southern California Grantmakers (SCG) for their annual conference, which was an opportunity to look at the latest policy analysis and research and to prepare for and address relevant public policy issues impacting Southern California. This year’s theme of “California Counts” engaged participants in a discussion about the impact of the 2020 Census, higher education policy changes, and the implications of the new federal tax law on California.
A number of Budget Center staff spoke at the conference, including Executive Director Chris Hoene on the latest from California’s state budget debate, Senior Policy Analyst Kristin Schumacher on policies that can advance gender justice, and Senior Policy Analyst Sara Kimberlin on policy strategies for addressing poverty.
The conference included keynote presentations by:
- The Honorable Alex Padilla California Secretary of State
- Ashley Swearengin, President and CEO, Central Valley Community Foundation
- Dr. Timothy P. White, Chancellor of the California State University
