SACRAMENTO, CA — Mauricio Torres (he/him), former Communications Strategist at the Budget Center, was promoted to Director of Communications. He replaced Sarah Jimenez, who recently left the organization to lead communications for the National Center for Youth Law.

As Director of Communications, Torres is responsible for ensuring the Budget Center’s values and perspective on creating a just and equitable California are centered in the public conversation. He works closely with the Budget Center team to reach policymakers, advocates, and the media in sharing the organization’s data and policy expertise to advance policies supporting Californians who have long been denied opportunities to share in the state’s wealth.

“We are very excited to promote Mauricio to Director of Communications. His skills, talents, life experiences, and track record of leading key projects at the organization make him a perfect fit for the role. He is a terrific and admired colleague, and I look forward to continuing working with Mauricio to advance public policies that expand opportunities and promote well-being for Californians.” — Chris Hoene, Executive Director.

Until now, Torres led the Budget Center’s digital strategy, including the organization’s website, email program, social media accounts, ads, and other digital assets. Before joining the Budget Center, he supported labor unions and green energy clients at Paschal Roth Public Affairs. Torres holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and communication studies from California State University, Sacramento and will soon complete a master’s degree in strategic communication and public relations from Sacred Heart University. He is a board member at the Sacramento Lavender Library and Cultural Exchange.

Torres joined the Budget Center team in 2019.
