SACRAMENTO, CA— Today, the California Budget & Policy Center (Budget Center) named Sasha Feldstein the new Strategy and Impact Director.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sasha and her diverse skillset to the team,” said Chris Hoene, executive director at the California Budget & Policy Center. “Sasha’s dedication to building vibrant, enduring institutions and her commitment to equity and community engagement make her an invaluable addition to our organization. Her leadership, strategic insight, and overall vision will significantly enhance our efforts to address the critical policy challenges facing Californians today.”

As Strategy and Impact Director, a new position in the organization, Feldstein is integral to the Budget Center’s senior management team. She shapes and implements the organization’s policy agenda and manages the outreach function, which is crucial for building relationships with policymakers, advocates, and organizers. Feldstein’s role will further strengthen the Budget Center’s influence in implementing meaningful policy change in California.

“I am honored to join the Budget Center and to contribute to its mission of promoting public policies that create a more equitable and just California,” said Feldstein. “I look forward to working with this talented team to address the pressing issues facing our state and to ensure that all Californians have the opportunity to thrive.”

Feldstein joins the Budget Center from the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC), where she most recently served as the Director of Economic Policy. At CIPC, she created and led the Economic Justice portfolio, focusing on access to jobs, training and entrepreneurship, workers’ rights, and an equitable economy for all. She worked with partners to secure significant policy wins, such as co-leading the campaign to include immigrants in the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), benefiting over 600,000 low-income immigrant workers and their families. She developed and implemented a racial equity lens for bill analysis, ensuring proposed legislation was examined for its potential disproportionate impacts on various communities. Feldstein also played a significant role in campaign development, strategic planning, and fostering equitable hiring and retention practices.

Before joining CIPC, Feldstein served in various impactful roles, including Strategic Partnerships Manager at Opportunity@Work and Policy Consultant at the Restaurant Opportunities Center-United. Prior to joining Opportunity@Work in 2016, Feldstein worked with the US Department of Agriculture on food system initiatives and as a legal advocate at the Urban Justice Center.

Feldstein holds a Master of Public Policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Human Rights from Barnard College at Columbia University. She sits on the Los Angeles Regional Advisory Council for Repair the World and is a current Movement Leader Fellow at the Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice Institute at CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies.
