SACRAMENTO, CA— Today, the California Budget & Policy Center announced the official program for its annual conference, Policy Insights, which was announced late last year, and will take place Tuesday, April 16, at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center.

“With the release of the program, featuring 11 dynamic workshops and plenary sessions, Policy Insights 2024 promises to be an enriching event for California’s public policy community,” said Chris Hoene, executive director at the California Budget & Policy Center. “We encourage all statewide advocates, legislative and government staff, nonprofit organizations, and foundations dedicated to improving public policy to join us as we delve into pressing issues and chart a course towards a more equitable California for all.”

The day will kick off with breakfast followed by a brief welcome. Then, the morning plenary will take place before diving into the morning workshops, of which attendees will have four options. After morning workshops, lunch will be served in conjunction with a luncheon plenary. Following lunch, afternoon workshops will take place with four more options to choose from. The event will conclude with an afternoon plenary session followed by a reception for networking and meaningful conversation.

Workshops will cover a wide variety of vital topics such as tax and budget policy, poverty, racial equity, housing and homelessness, child development, and more, and include:

Morning Workshops

  • Building Wealth, Building Futures: Strategies for Fostering Economic Opportunity and Mobility for Children
  • Dream Big: Increasing State Revenues Through Corporate Tax Fairness
  • Empowering Communities: How Local Leaders Are Unlocking Public Funding to Address Community Needs
  • Expanding Child Care Access: Analyzing Supply Gaps and Policy Opportunities 

Afternoon Workshops:

  • Advancing Racial Equity in California: From Policy to Progress
  • Dignity at Work: Empowering Workers and Building a Resilient Workforce
  • Finding Home: Solving Homelessness Requires Sustained Care and Investments
  • Trans Rights Are Human Rights: Inclusive Policies for Trans, Gender Non-conforming, and Intersex Californians
