This update was released Sunday (3/8) at 12:15 pm.

As you know, the California Budget & Policy Center’s Policy Insights 2020 conference was scheduled to take place Monday, March 9, in Sacramento. However, due to updated guidelines issued late Saturday, March 7, from the California Department of Public Health on mass gatherings and large community events, the Budget Center unfortunately must cancel our event. Many of the guidelines and recommendations require resources that create significant financial and logistical challenges for non-profit organizations like ourselves.

We understand many of you have made travel arrangements and accommodations, and appreciate your patience as we work through the next steps, including potentially scheduling a future date for our conference, accommodating refunds, and other changes that will be needed. Urgent matters and refund requests can be directed to jselby@calbudgetcenter.org.

Please know we do not come to this decision lightly as we take the health, well-being, and safety of the community seriously, and also acknowledge the effect such decisions have on the economic and social well-being of workers and our local community.

We thank you for your understanding and patience during the coming days and weeks.

Sincerely,

Chris Hoene, Executive Director, and Janice Selby, Director of Operations
