Policy Insights 2024: Event Details + FAQs

We will not be offering discounts or scholarships for Policy Insights; however, we offer tiered pricing options to make the event more accessible.

Please use one of the lower-cost ticket tiers to register if you or your organization otherwise would not be able to attend. If you have questions about our discount policy, please contact jselby@calbudgetcenter.org.

Plenary sessions and workshops explore timely issues and debates regarding tax and budget policy, poverty, health, education, child development, the justice system, and much more. Workshops include a mix of programming led by the Budget Center team and our partners. Additional details to come.

Last year, we were honored to hear from Taifa Smith Butler, Mia Birdsong, Michael Tubbs, Joseph Tomás Mckellar, Antoinette Ratcliffe, Amado Uno, Assemblymember Phil Ting, and others who shared insights on their efforts to unite us in building a more equitable future.

We’re proud to bring together community and statewide advocates, legislative and government staff, nonprofit and philanthropic organizations, members of the press, and anyone else who is dedicated to improving public policy and creating a more just and equitable California.

By attending Policy Insights, you’ll have a chance to: 

• Connect with advocates, decision influencers, and decision-makers who are working to create a more inclusive state. 
• Learn about the state budget landscape, tactics to close the budget shortfall, and other emerging policy issues facing California.
• Share your work and perspective on crafting equitable and antiracist public policies.

Policy Insights registration includes access to plenary sessions, workshops, lunch, and a networking happy hour. 

Policy Insights is hosted by the California Budget & Policy Center (Budget Center), a research and analysis nonprofit with nearly thirty years of experience advancing public policies that expand opportunities and promote well-being for all Californians. 

The Budget Center provides a comprehensive analysis of the state budget, its expertise includes safety net policy, K-12 and higher education, child care, housing, homelessness, and the justice system.

Transportation

The Sacramento Valley Amtrak Station is an 18-minute walk from the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center.

The Budget Center aims to provide information and opportunities for all Californians to engage in public policy, especially for our Policy Insights conference.

In an effort to make our conference as accessible as possible, we offer four ticket levels: Community, Supporter, Sustainer, and Champion.

Ticket descriptions are located on the registration form to help attendees decide which level to choose. However, it is entirely up to you to decide. We do not ask for any documentation or application for subsidized tickets.

In the event that there is a surge of COVID-19 cases in Northern California around the time of Policy Insights, we will ask attendees to wear face coverings. The Budget Center will send out a notification to attendees via our mobile app and email in the event that face coverings will be needed. 

If you are ill, we ask that you do not attend Policy Insights and either transfer your registration to a colleague or request a refund. See our refund policy for additional information on transfers and refunds.

In the event that you are unable to attend Policy Insights in-person, we encourage you to consider transferring your registration to a colleague or an attendee from an organization who otherwise may not be able to attend.

After you have entered your attendee information, you will arrive at a checkout page.

On the checkout page, you will see payment options listed. Select the ‘pay by check’ option if you would prefer to mail in a check. Select ‘pay by check’ before you click place order.

You will receive an invoice via email within 4 days.
